About this role

RIFT is developing sustainable iron fuel technology as a circular energy carrier for industrial heat. This internship focuses on understanding the reaction kinetics of hydrogen-based iron oxide reduction at various hydrogen compositions. You will conduct experimental research combined with modeling and data analysis to investigate how different process conditions affect iron oxide reduction behavior. Your work will directly support the modeling, optimization, and scaling of the pilot installation toward a commercially viable system. Tasks include performing reduction experiments, using thermogravimetric analysis to determine kinetic parameters, analyzing reaction kinetics and transport phenomena, developing and improving reactor models, working with Python-based modeling code, and investigating reduction reactions in fluidized bed systems.

What you'll likely bring

  • Ability to conduct experimental research on hydrogen-based iron oxide reduction
  • Experience or knowledge of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) techniques
  • Understanding of reaction kinetics, mass transfer, and heat transfer
  • Proficiency with Python for modeling and data analysis
  • Capability to develop, modify, and improve reaction and reactor models
  • Knowledge of fluidized bed systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
